This batch is different

Some of you may have read about the pudding I make for my nursing moms. It’s high in calories, fat, calcium, etc.; all those vital things that a nursing mom needs to keep her weight and energy up.

I found out about it last year and was driving all over trying to find one key ingredient; fresh goat’s milk. You can substitute regular cow milk from the store, but the goat milk is better I think. The trouble is, when you can find fresh goat’s milk, it can run up to $8 a gallon!

So I got this brainy idea and thought, “why don’t I get my own goats?!”

Yep, so long story short, I invested in two nice Nigerian Dwarf does last year. We had them bred over the winter and they kidded this spring. So now I have a fresh supply of goats milk right outside my door.

But let me tell you, it’s not as easy as walking in the grocery store, opening the cooler door and grabbing a gallon of milk. Especially when I’ve never milked a cow or goat before and these girls had never been milked before. Add to the fact that I don’t have a goat milking stand yet. Yep, so twice a day now, we have a little goat “rodeo”. 😉  Actually, we’re all learning the process and things are going fairly well.

So what’s different about this batch of pudding…..

Well, half of the milk in this recipe (I didn’t have enough for the whole amount) was collected with my own little hands, from my own little goat girls. 😉

Go me! 😀
