Our last winter/spring Cavapoo litter has arrived! (Born in winter; going home in spring). One of our Cavalier “sisters”, Glory (a black and tan) has delivered six gorgeous, healthy puppies; three boys, three girls (four black with some white) and two apricots.

The (possibly) proud father/s is/are Sundae and Clancy. What?! Yep, she had dates with two of our handsome boys. This is what is referred to as a dual-sired litter where two different males are allowed to mate with one female. Sometimes this is done if one sire is older, or a young sire is being started, or if someone is wanting the chance of puppies from two nice boys. It is not an uncommon practice in the purebred dog world. We had the chance with these two of getting a variety of colors or even parti puppies (“cow” puppies). If these were purebred puppies that were being registered with the American Kennel Club we would do DNA testing to know for sure who the father was before registering the pups. But since these are a hybrid breed (not purebred) that will not be registered or producing their own pups (because they are going to be spayed or neutered family companions) we don’t need to have proof of fatherhood and since both boys are health and genetic tested (and sweethearts) we’re good!
