Dally, our last little Aussalier that was matched is going to an equestrian home. For those unfamiliar with that term, it means her new mom has “horsies” 😉 (I <3 horsies)

She’s actually staying a bit longer with us because her mom has a horse show this weekend. So I let her know we would make sure Dally got to meet the horses while she was here still. And it’s good exposure for the other pups too!

Behind our backyard fence the property slopes down the mountainside. There isn’t much grazing for horses, but it’s fenced in and I sometimes let the horse down their to wander and nibble on what they can find. (Don’t worry, we do feed them hay!)

So even though I didn’t want the puppies under that sappy ol’ pine tree again, I moved the exercise pens up against the back fence so the puppies could meet the horses close but with a fence in between them. And I don’t leave them out there long enough to roll around and find the sap!

The first day I just dropped a few carrot pieces on the other side of the fence for the horses to munch on as the puppies looked and wondered what the large creature was.

The next day, I spread some hay along the fence line to keep the horses there longer as they munched quietly away on their snack. And to make it “rewarding” for the puppies to be near the horses, I sprinkled little bits of cheese along the inside of the fence where the puppies were. They all happily enjoyed their snacks together and the puppies are getting used to their large “neigh”-bors.

(P.S. I know my horse are chubby! They’re on a diet!)
