If you’re a regular follower of the blog you’ve probably noticed I haven’t posted in a few days.
You guys know I share all things dog, puppies and our life here at Pinewood. Living with animals has highs and lows. I debated even sharing this because I’m not looking for sympathy just sharing the farm life. Because sometimes it’s not just about puppies and you guys have seen pictures of our other animals.
Last week, on Tuesday (which was the puppies’ vet appointment) I went out to feed the horses and found my oldest with a severe leg injury. The same leg she had severely injured and recovered from when she was a two-year-old. I say “recovered” because she eventually healed but always had a defect with that leg. She was “ridable” but the leg was never the same. But she made a great pasture pet and was the “company” horse when we needed an extra for a ride.
Unfortunately, after weighing the options and considering her age and the old injury we decided it was best to say good-bye and put her down.
But since I also had to get the pups to their appointment that same day, there was not much time for taking a breather from this decision, we had to just keep going.
All of our kids were coming home later in the week too. Thankfully, being busy with the puppies soon departure and the kids being home for the extra time at the end of the week made for a good distraction from the heartbreak of the sudden loss.
I had Gracie’s (the horse) mom too. Gracie had been born on my sister-in-law’s place (which is our neighbor, because I think at that time we didn’t even have fences up yet.) So she lived her whole life of almost twenty-two years here with us (except for a short stint when a friend borrowed her). I’m grateful I was able to have her from birth to passing. And glad that we were able to bury her here on the farm next to her mom. So though I’m sad at what happened and the decision we had to make I want to celebrate the great life she had!❤️

All of our kids were planning on coming home later in the week and with the business of getting the puppies ready to leave and the kids coming home it made for a good distraction from sad “event”.
Family time is the best time. It’s been months since they were all here together because of everyones’ work/school schedules and we had a great time together.
And then Sunday was time for our Golden Girls litter to go to their forever homes. We had the privilege of keeping these guys a couple extra weeks because of their small size so their new families were super happy to finally meet and get to take their puppies home.
