Our Lyric/Dickens litter has arrived!
I kept peeking and checking on her throughout the day as hubby and I tackled the apples in the garage that we picked last fall. (We spent all day and evening making applesauce.)
Lyric had a cozy, covered (for privacy) crate next to the wood stove. Every time I lifted the blanket and looked in she just stared back at me. I could hardly get her to go outside to potty.
The day passed and nothing happened so I knew she would probably do something in the quietness of nighttime and keep me up all night.
I headed out to finally put dogs to bed in the dog house about nine o’clock. I wear headphones and am usually listening to a book as I work. Then hubby called. “Did you know Lyric had a puppy?” He must’ve peeked under the blanket to check on her while I was out.
I hurried thought chores and ran back to the house. Lifting the blanket slowly, I opened the crate door to check on my quiet, sneaky girl. There she was, no muss, no fuss, no noise, sitting quietly with a quiet, content, dry puppy snuggled up to her!
I picked the puppy up and looked it over, felt mom’s abdomen for more puppies and then let them snuggle back together.
I knew she was going to have a small litter by the size of her, but honestly thought she was hiding a couple small pups in there. Instead, she gave us one, fat, healthy boy!
I’ll be honest and tell you I was a bit disappointed that it was a boy. I was really hoping for at least one girl to keep for myself.
But he’s a handsome boy and someone will absolutely adore him! He’s a gorgeous apricoty-caramel color with a white blaze and white on his chest. And he’ll come pre-spoiled since he’s an “only”. I’ll make sure of that! 😉
Since he’s the “only” we’ll match him around St Patrick’s Day and he’ll be ready to go home Sunday, April 14th.
He’s perfect!💘
