I tried to keep them safe

My son gave me a whole crate of gorgeous homegrown tomatoes! His plants were doing much better than mine at producing so I was happy to take them off his hands. 😉

I was planning on preserving them; canning or drying. Before I could get that done I wanted to find a cool place to keep them. So I set them on top of the wire crates in the dining room under the air conditioner. Perfect spot as it was cool and out of reach of the mischievous Cavalier pups!

They sat for a week while I tended to some other produce that needed to be put up in a more timely manner.

The day came for me to start on the tomatoes. So I grabbed the box and headed to the kitchen sink.

But, wait! What is this?! And how did the puppies get to the tomato? They couldn’t reach inside the box as it was up too high.

Those naughty puppies had chewed and licked through the box and made a hole in it. Then the tasty treats were easy to reach and they had had their snack! To give them the benefit of the doubt, I do think there was a tomato that went bad and starting leaking in the box and that’s what’s started the interest. Chewing on something more appropriate, bully sticks.
