It’s important to expose your puppy (safely) to different noises during the socialization period (three to about fourteen weeks). And we do our best to give them a good start before they go home!
I’ve talked about this app before, but I love the Puppy Sound App! Since we live so far from civilization and the noise of the city or even a town, this app gives us a chance to expose the puppies to noises that they might hear in their new homes, but not naturally hear, here with us.
It’s got anything from babies crying, children playing and shouting to fireworks and airplane noises. It’s a great tool.

I’ve also found some videos on YouTube that play different sounds that I’m using for the puppies. And DogTV is another fun thing for your dog or puppy if you haven’t seen it!
Along with that we have exposed them to a regular vacuum downstairs and upstairs in the puppy room we use a shop vac.

I keep a hair dryer and small pair of clippers in the puppy room to expose the puppies too. And also the regular pet dryer.
There’s also a radio we like to play. Unfortunately it doesn’t get a lot of stations, so I use Pandora on my phone to play classical music when I’m upstairs working with them.

And when they are downstairs playing I’ll make sure to run the washing machine, the dryer and the blender to let them hear those also.
Plus it’s fun to show them some of the noisy, moving toys we have like the talking cactus and the wiggly monkey!

It’s just all part of raising puppies up with a good foundation.
