What in the world is a Cuddle Cavapoo? Well, it’s a name a fellow Cavapoo breeder coined for a bit larger Cavapoo. Most regular Cavapoos fall into the 15-20 lb range as adults. Obviously there are some that are smaller and some larger, but that is the average from a mini Poodle parent and a Cavalier parent.

A Cuddle Cavapoo is from a Cavalier parent, and a small Standard Poodle parent which results in the same adorable, low-to-non shedding, family friendly Cavapoo in a bit bigger package. Depending on the Poodle size (and of course there are different sized Poodle genes in the family tree) the Cuddle Cavapoo can range in the 25-40ish pound range.

Aurora is a sable parti (and you can see how dark she was as a baby, and how much a sable can lighten up by her grown-up pictures). You can see on the muzzle where she was groomed what the adult color would be.

Almost two years ago we brought baby Aurora home in hopes of someday raising some of these cuddly, larger Cavapoos. A bigger dog takes a bit longer to mature than a smaller dog, so we waited until recently to start her health testing. (For a larger Poodle it is recommended to have the hips checked as opposed to the patellas (knees) like in the smaller breeds.

So a couple weeks ago, I took Aurora to a specialist that does hip evaluations. There are two different ways to check hips either OFA x-rays or Pennhip measurements. From what I researched PennHip is more accurate (and about twice as much money! :O ) We are waiting for results from that test.

She has already had her heart clearance done and has an appointment with an ophthalmologist to get her eye test.

So it’s just a wait and see if she passes all her health clearances and we can plan for our first litter of Cuddle Cavapoos!

Aurora is my first Standard Poodle (she is on the smaller side,  standing at 22 3/4″ and weighing 42 lbs) and I have to say I’m impressed by her temperament. She is fun, playful and oh so sweet. When I put her to bed she likes to tuck her head into my chest for a hug. She’s just a love. <3
