And as soon as we got Glory and her babies moved out of the small puppy pen in the living room it was time for Sky and her puppies to graduate to a bigger space. The pups were starting to move around more, their eyes are open and I even saw one sniffing mom’s food dish one day! It was time to move them to bigger quarters.
They look a little big lost in that big space, but they’ll be using it soon enough. And this is when they get introduced to their first litter box. As you can see the first litter box is a bit different than the ones we use on older puppies. This is a commercial litter box system from Ugodog. It has a tray with two grates on top. The reason why I like to use this as their introduction to a litter box is because it’s basically the same height as the bed. As you can see about half the puppy pen is filled with a big bed and half is occupied by the Ugodog.
Puppies naturally want to get away from their sleeping area to eliminate so they toddle off their bed onto the litter box. It’s a natural way to potty train as we’re working with their natural instinct to move away from their “nest” (the bed) to relieve themselves.
These little cuties turned three weeks old on Saturday so it was also time to weigh them, trim their toenails. And give them some names. I must have Christmas candy on my brain ;P
