Retirement update

Retiring the adults and letting them go to new homes is the hardest part of this for me. But when they get amazing new families that fall in love with them, it makes this part so much easier.

Sage’s new family has been really good about checking in and giving me updates and I’m so thankful.

This was the latest she shared with me.

“Sage is settling in. Today is the first time she showed interest in toys. She has been very attached to me, yet I can see she is getting more comfortable when I am not around and R takes her for walks and spends time with her. She still prefers me though. We thoroughly enjoy her!!💜”

I also wanted to share some information for those out there that might be adopting an adult dog, whether it be from us, a shelter or another place.

This poster gives a good idea of what your new friend is feeling and how long it takes for them to really settle in and start feeling at home. Be patient with the process.

And please be extra careful with your new friend as they are scared and unsure of what’s going on. Watch open doors, make sure you fence and gate are secure and when you do take them out for a walk, make sure they have a snug buckle collar or training collar on. If you use a harness, make sure it is snug enough and if the dog should become scared or pull, that it can’t back out of the harness. Don’t ever attach the leash to a coat or sweater.
