We used to have an apricot tree in our little family orchard. But bugs took it over and we couldn’t get them under control, so hubby finally took the tree out. Now we just have two pear trees and two apple trees in the garden.
But Saturday morning I received a whole bushel of fresh apricots!

Aren’t they delicious?! <3 heehee
Yep, Winter had her puppies! She was due just anytime so I was monitoring her temperature as I normally due with expectant mamas. I do that twice a day starting a few days before their due date. A normal dog’s temperature is around 101.5. The week before she is going to deliver it will drop down into the 100.5 range. It might dip into the 99s and low 100s for a few days. What we’re hoping and waiting for is a big drop, usually 98.something which tells us that we should see puppies within the next 24 hours. Not all moms follow this pattern, but on as a whole, it’s a great indicator to predict when puppies will arrive.
Her temp wasn’t doing anything special, but Friday night it did get down to 99.6. Not the big drop I look for before whelping, but at least it was changing. I was hoping and praying that the babies would either wait until Monday or before born Saturday. As I mentioned in my recent post, my DIL’s baby shower was on Sunday. I was prepared to take Winter (and all my whelping paraphernalia with me, but really did not want to).
Saturday morning I got up and let her and the other dogs out to potty, then went about doing chores. When I got back in the house, hubby said Winter was acting like she was going to have puppies. She definitely was more restless and panting; signs of early labor.
I proceeded to get the big whelping crate ready with newspaper (some dogs like to dig and “nest” in preparation for puppies). But, boy did things escalate quickly. She went from quiet, normal acting to full blown labor in just an hour or so.
And then the puppies starting coming quickly. The first one was born at 9:10 and the last at 10:42. And just like that they were here! And I got to go to the baby shower without the dog (hubby stayed home to puppy-sit).
We have four gorgeous boys and two beautiful girls. We will be matching this litter on Sunday, August 18th and delivering them to their new families on Sunday, September 8th.
Please reach out as soon as you can if you are on our waiting list and interested in getting on Winter’s litter list for possible matching of F1b Cavapoo cuties! And if you’re not already on our waiting list there is still time to put in an application for possible matching of one of these puppies.
There will be an album under the Cavapoo heading added to the website shortly. We’ll update pictures there of the puppies as they grow and develop. You’ll also find updates and pictures on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pinewoodcavapoos), our Instagram page (https://www.instagram.com/pinewoodcavapoos/) and we’ll be adding videos to our YouTube channel as the pups start to grow and move around more! https://www.youtube.com/@PinewoodKennelsCavapoos
