In between

In between caring for puppies (which takes a lot of time) and doing regular animal chores and tending to the garden, this time of year is busy with putting up produce for later.

I’m a bit weird and love the process of canning, dehydrating and freezing summer produce for later!

When you live so far from town and winter roads can get snowy and icy, it’s nice to have some extra things on the shelves. I like to grow what I am able, but sometimes buy from other orchards or local farmers.

I got some peaches from a friend and already canned those.

My cucumbers are slowly producing so I’ve put up some dill pickles.

I’ve dried some sage and chives from the garden.

And the other day my sis-in-law and I went to a local u-pick corn patch that we like to visit each year. So now I’m in the process of canning and dehydrating some corn.

Thankfully, I have my vacuums ready should any corn kernels fall on the floor. It’s always nice to have good “help”. 😉

Oh man, those peaches are making my mouth water! I used to can them (although mine always floated to the top) and they are SO DELICIOUS in the winter months. And I’m doing the same thing with corn, except cooking it, stripping it and then freezing it.
