While we’re waiting for Indy and Bonus puppies to arrive, I thought I’d talk a litter bit about family. I love being able to continue a great line of dogs for future generations. I know some breeders buy prospects from other breeders to keep their program going. And yes, sometimes we do need to add in new and different genetics to improve or diversify. But I also love the challenge of continuing a line that we started years ago.
Bonus is a part of that story in our Poodle line.
Many years ago, I bought a beautiful black and white miniature Poodle that I named Flower. Eventually she was bred to our cute gray and white miniature Poodle named Eli (both bought from unrelated breeders). They produced a beautiful litter of parti-colored Poodles, from which I kept two; Hazel and her sister Tansy.

Hazel as most of you know was one of our amazing moms who recently retired. And hard as I tried, I was never able to succeed in getting any puppies from Tansy. So when Flower retired, I gave her and Tansy to a friend who was starting a small breeding program. I told her about Tansy’s history and that she’d never gotten pregnant. But if she ever did raise any puppies from her then she could pay me, otherwise she had a gorgeous pet.
Well, wouldn’t you know, Tansy came in season at her house and her little AKC registered apricot mini male Poodle took a liking to her. And she got pregnant!
The result was Bonus and he came to live with us as payment for his mom, Tansy.

So these puppies from Bonus and Indy would be third generation Pinewood pups! I love knowing the background genetics, temperament and health of the dogs we use in our program. And that’s the reason behind raising my own dogs for our program if I’m able to.
I can’t wait to meet them! Hurry up, Indy! 😉
P.S. I’m seriously considering breeding Bonus with Lyric for more colorful miniature Poodles before they both retire. If you’re interested in a purebred mini Poodle puppy please let me know. I’ll keep a list of those interested for this possible union❤️
