Two at once

I’ve been asked over the years by different individuals if they could adopt two puppies at once time. Most people that ask really want to raise two littermates together.

And I really try to persuade them otherwise! There have been handful of people who went ahead and did it anyways.

Yes, they’ll always have a playmate and company when nobody is home. But it’s at least twice as much work, training, mess and chaos! I should know, I’m right in the middle of it with Legend and Laney!

They become very dependent on each other and of course, very attached. Sometimes it seems that you have two puppies with one combined brain!

So my recommendation if someone wants two dogs, is to get one puppy and get it through puppyhood, vaccinations, socialization and training first. Then if you want to get a friend for your puppy, wait until the first one is through all those stages (about a year should be good). The first dog is still young enough to enjoy and bond with the second, plus it can help “train” the first one!

Hi Jennifer, Do you think there’s an age limit on the first pup, before the second one?
How old is too old for a dog maybe not wanting a new friend? Thanks for your thoughts on this.
