She escaped!

Well, so much for blocking the gate and having the whole yard fenced in! *sigh

I had the girls out for their mid-day excursions in the yard and had gone back into the house. I got busy and time slipped by when suddenly my phone rang! It was my BIL (and nearest neighbor), “there’s a little gray dog up here”.

LYRIC!

I quickly hung up the phone, didn’t even grab my coat and headed up the hill. I searched and called and shook my “cookie” container.

My neighbor came out and said the last time he saw her she was heading back down the driveway. So I headed towards home calling as I went. I was just down his hill at the back of our pasture, when he called from up above, “she’s over here on the rock ledge!”

So I crossed through the section behind our house and headed towards his voice. A rock ledge separates us from them, and there sat Lyric, perched halfway down. It looked like she had hopped partway down and was afraid to go all the way down or back up. She sat there like a statue until I climbed up and scooped her up.

I carried her home and set her down once we were back in the yard. She happily pranced back inside for some cookies.

So know we have to figure out where she escaped! I suspect she pushed through part of the garden fence along the driveway. Then once she was in the garden she found an opening somewhere (the garden fence has bigger squares and it’s not as tight of a fence) and escaped.

So glad her little escapade ended with her unscathed! But know I’ll make sure I stay in the yard when she’s out and keep my eye on her!

And yes, she is dressed in her winter shaggy coat. Don’t judge the dreadlocks šŸ˜›

Having had a Houdini (Mishka) my heart was racing as I read your story. It is so terrifying when they escape: coyotes, and in our case cars or dog thiefs. I was always convinced I would never see him again until I saw him again. I am so glad you found the Happy Wanderer—and relatively quickly.

Thank you, a good reminder for me that my fence must be completed and checked before Charlie and I go back home. Good job , fast reaction.
