Busy with the “kids”

We’re still busy with the five puppies  from Shiloh’s crew that are still here! It does take some extra work when you have a group. (Not even counting the training with the two Poodles).

Thankfully, my family is here for a visit so the puppies are getting extra cuddles from new people! It sure nice to have extra bodies to help and interact with the puppies.

But we’re still working on potty training, crate training (they sleep in a crate at night with access to the litter box and have their meals in a crate). Table training with handling and grooming is also something important to work on so the puppy feels comfortable at the vet and groomer.

And we’re working on some simple puppy challenges like a small opening between the puppy pen and the wall. They’re on the other side anxiously wanting breakfast. All they have to do is figure out there’s an opening, go around it and find the food. It’s simple and there’s a quick reward. And simple challenges help the puppy with problem solving skills later in life.

We’re still using the sound app which is helpful when some of those sounds aren’t here naturally. Today a fighter jet roared by overhead. It was so loud! But after it passed I praised them for being such good puppies and not over reacting to that new, loud noise.

And they’ve not gotten to meet, not just the big dogs, but they’ve seen the chickens, rabbits and even the horse as I let him out almost every day to graze in the yard. They don’t mind at all when this giant “dog” is eating grass just on the other side of the fence!

Tomorrow, I’ll share more of something else we’re practicing!
