Mr Social

Blaze aka Mr Social is seven weeks old today. He loves life, people and other dogs! Especially the big dogs. If I take him out in the back yard and will try to get through the fence to see his friends. So then I scoop him up and out we go to visit his big friends.

The very first night last week that I had him sleep by himself and mom got to sleep in her own crate and hang out the next morning with her girlfriends, he fussed a bit around bedtime and early in the morning. But then he ate all of his breakfast and hung out. Later that morning I got them back together. I figured the first thing he would do was rush headlong into her belly and start nursing. But he didn’t even try, just bounced around exploring while mom gave him a sniff or two. It’s so nice when they both make weaning so easy and obvious. Of course, he’ll still spend time with her, but he’s also getting socialized with a lot of other dogs too. And taking it all in stride!

Part of his day he stays in his pen upstairs, part of the day we’re outside exploring and part of the day he hangs out downstair while I work around the house. He’s learning that when I leave and he cries and barks that I don’t rush back to comfort him. And he will quiet down after a bit. And wonder of wonders, I always come back eventually. When he sits quiet for attention or we go outside to potty and he does the right thing, I reward him with an enthusiastic “YES!” And then he gets praise and attention.
