A good question and one that was asked of me a while back, so I thought I’d address it here.
And the short answer is, “Yes!” Of course. ๐
I name each litter here at Pinewood Kennels for a number of reasons;
- I enjoy it! ๐
- And love to come up with theme names for each litter.
- It makes it easier to identify each puppy for pictures and videos.
- It sounds some much better than calling each one by their ribbon color (some puppies wear colored ribbon collars to help tell them apart if they have a similar litter mate.) For instance; the “blue” male or the “yellow” female.
Some people have a name picked out before they pick their puppy. Some people finalize their name choice after they’ve been matched with their puppy. And some want to wait until puppy is home and they live with it a while before deciding on a name. Still others, have decided they like the name that I give the pup and just keep it.
Each scenario is fine. But if you do decide ahead of time what your puppy’s name will be, it’s fine to let me know so I can start using it on him or her.
