Let’s talk about dog poop.
Dogs poop. Dogs poop a lot. Sometimes they poop in the right place like a far corner of the yard. And sometimes they poop in the wrong place, like when your new puppy poops by the back door. (By the way if that happens, it’s your fault) ;P
Incidentally, if you feed a quality raw diet (there are a lot of well done commercial ones you can use) or a high quality kibble, your dog’s poops will be smaller. Seriously! That was one of the benefits I noticed after switching our dogs over to Fromm Gold Adult food.
Puppies poop a lot too. When they’re young mom has clean up duty. But once they start eating solid foods, it’s my turn to clean up after the little poopers.
We try to make this easier by litter box training our puppies. So starting about three weeks of age when they move from their big whelping crate to the puppy play pen we introduce them to the UgoDog litter box. This is the perfect time because puppies are starting to toddle off their bed to potty (puppies don’t normally like to soil where they sleep) so half of the puppy pen is a big bed and half is the litter box. The UgoDog works best for this age because it’s a tray with a plastic grate on top. It’s a flat, level surface so puppies can just toddle off the bed and they end up on the litter box.
When the puppies are really starting to produce more urine and normal baby poops, I will switch them to a big plastic container with the sides cut down (for easy access) and a layer of wood pellets in the bottom.
A few days ago I did just that with Oakley’s puppies. I switched out the UgoDog litter box for the regular one.

And just like that someone went over and made a deposit in the new litter box.

And that’s when we actually get excited about dog poop! 😛
