Our Cavalier litter is now seven weeks old! I love each one and it’s going to be really hard to decide who I want to keep. Of course, Kit Kat is staying since my plan was to get a daughter or two from Joy.
And I’ve been leaning towards keeping one boy also. I know I have Dickens, Asher and Nico, so I don’t technically “need” another male Cavalier, but Dickens is gettin close to retirement age.
I’ve had several people reach out with interest in a purebred Cavalier puppy, so if you’re one of those, I won’t make my final decision until they’ve had their check-up at the vet next week. All of our puppies get thorough check-ups before they go to their new homes, but I will be looking for “extra” details on these boys (correct bites, two descended boy “bits”, etc). We always want to breed the best animals that we can in any puppy we produce whether it’s for a family pet or for breeding. It’s just some small imperfections that wouldn’t matter for a family pet that would be neutered, might make a difference on a breeding animal that is reproducing. For example, if a male had only one descended testicle. He would still make a great pet and when neutered, the descended and the undescended testicle would be removed. But that one seemly minor imperfection would disqualify that animal from being used for breeding in my opinion. I hope that makes sense.
Because we won’t be making a final decision until next week, instead of them going home the Sunday after they turn eight weeks (April 3rd) they likely not go home until the 10th to give those getting one of these puppies a little bit of time to get make plans.
