Why do I wait and keep you in suspense when we have a new litter? Well, its’ just easier sometimes.
Dog breeding has its ups and downs and sometimes I don’t want to share all the depressing stuff. (No, worries though, this is a good post). For instance, sometimes we have a tiny puppy (or two) born to a litter or maybe really big litter that needs constant monitoring. And sometimes there are losses, maybe mom accidentally lays on the puppy during the night (even though I’m sleeping right next to her crate) or a puppy aspirates some fluid at birth or it’s just too teeny and weak to make it.
The last thing I want to do if make an announcement that we had “this many” puppies and then two days later have to tell you that a puppy passed away. Nobody wants to hear that news.
So I would rather wait a few days and make sure all the pups are gaining, growing, nursing and well on their way before I share the details. Granted, that doesn’t mean things don’t still happen. But sometimes it’s easier to keep the sad details to myself.
Thankfully, I have no sad details to share, only happen ones at this point! But I did want to explain a bit why I sometimes don’t share all the litter details right after birth like some breeders do.
Raven and family are doing well. We do have a tiny one and a couple more that are smaller than the rest but so far they are all eating and gaining. No crying (which means they have full bellies and are warm and content).
This amazing little Cavapoo mom delivered seven puppies in an hour and ten minutes time! That’s crazy quick!
I’m so happy that we invested in our new Puppy Warmer incubator and oxygen concentrator to give our puppies that extra boost they might need at birth. I had a feeling I might need it for Raven’s litter. Because she is a smaller Cavapoo, she tends to produce smaller puppies and with the looks of her belly, I knew she was full of babies!
It was such a blessing to have that warm place to stash them as she continued to deliver or when I needed to clean up things and give her a new bed after the delivery was finished.
So what do we have? There are four boys and three girls. We have tricolors, a black and tan, a brown phantom and maybe a black and white. I say “maybe” because when they are so little sometimes it’s hard to tell if they’re truly black and white or tricolor. The tricolor and black and white look so similar at times and the only visible difference is the tan points on the tricolor. So on these tiny new puppies I’m looking for brown in specific places; inside the ears, eyebrows, cheek patches and under the tail. But if a pup has no black around the base of the tail and only white in that area then there won’t be any brown. Or if the brown cheek spots are a dark brown instead of lighter tan, then on a very small puppy they are hard to see. So we might have to wait until these guys are a bit older to determine how many of each color we have. The black and tan and the brown phantom are obvious, of course. And they’re all gorgeous!

These F1b Cavapoos (mom is an F1 Cavapoo and dad is a mini Poodle) will be matched with families on our Cavapoo waiting list on Sunday, May 1st and go home on Sunday May 22nd. So if you are one of the families already on our Cavapoo waiting list and are interested in this litter please shoot me an email at pinewoodcavapoos@gmail.com
