Saturday snapshots

Fall is in the air and things are starting to look a bit different around here. Mornings are crisp and cold and the dogs don’t like to stay outside any longer than necessary to take care of business. The garden is “asleep” for the winter and the last of the plants have gotten frosted. The horses are are growing fuzzy winter coats. And we’re enjoying the last of the flowers inside.

Could this be the original “angry bird”? Heehee

Also, I’m taking a break from the blog as I’m off to visit family again. Hubby will be home to hold the fort down ❤️

Sharing more

Yesterday I shared about Aurora. Today and in upcoming days, I’ll share about more available adult dogs looking for a comfy couch or an active retirement 😉

If you’re new to our blog, you may be wondering why we are looking for new homes for some of our dogs?

People frequently ask me if saying good-bye to cute puppies on puppy delivery day is hard for me. To me, that is one of the funnest parts of raising dogs. New families are anxiously awaiting their new puppy and there is so much joy and sometimes even happy tears, that’s it is one of the best days!

But the hardest part for a breeder is to say farewell to an adult they’ve raised and loved. But sometimes you have to do the hard things to make things better for the dogs. I want them to have happy, peaceful retirement years being the center of someone’s world.

Some may think it is horrible that I place my adult dogs in loving homes when they retire. I would love to keep each one forever. <3

But if I’m going to continue raising these adorable puppies for potential adopters, I have to raise more adults to be future parents. Obviously, we want our parents to have a nice life and “retire” at a nice age. So we raise some purebred Poodles and Cavaliers or keep a Cavapoo puppy occasionally to step in when those current ones are ready to retire. So there are always more dogs around then just the current parents. All those dogs require attention, grooming, love, medical care, and space. And I only have so much of each.

So I would much rather have an adult that is no longer being a parent, be spayed and retired into a home where he or she is the center of attention; a place where they will be doted on and spoiled. Where they can sleep on the couch, be part of the family activities and given all the attention they want. And I screen and place the dog into what I think sounds like the best home for that particular dog. Placing an adult dog is much harder on my heart than saying good-bye to a darling puppy.

Today, I’d like to share about this special boy.

Rumor is a purebred black phantom (black & tan) miniature Poodle. He is the son of my heart dog, Reba and our fence wonder dog , Sundae. Thankfully, he did not get either parents fence climbing skills, but this boy has “Tigger-springs” in his back legs! He jumps straight up and down with excitement. When I walk through the yard, he will be right next to my side boing-ing up and down. I usually just see a blur next to me. But the other day, my son saw him and said, “mom, that dog jumps clear up to your shoulder!”

He has gone through basic obedience class and earned his AKC Canine Good Citizenship certificate. I sometimes wonder how he did, because he rarely sat in class. I always had to push his butt into a sit when it was time to practice the sit. His back leg “springs” are so tight that he usually just stays at attention and wags his tail furiously.

He is a “velcro” dog and will become very attached to his person. He would love to be someone’s buddy and constant companion. And he’s a nice size at 14″ at the shoulder and about 13 lbs of lean muscle. He is four and a half years old. He is not neutered yet and I may still use him on our girls in the meantime. I just need to have less boys around here. We can have our vet do it or the new owner can. He’s up-to-date on his annual exam, vaccinations and he is micro-chipped. He gets along with most other dogs but would do best with a female if he has a house mate.

If you are interested in our sweet boy, please fill out the puppy application and note it is for Rumor.💙

I love her

But in an effort to get my numbers down and make all the female dogs happy (Zuma is threatened having another female running the yard with her and tends to pick on Aurora) I would be willing to let Aurora go to a new home with a fenced yard.

Since we have decided not to do any more of the bigger Cavapoos (on purpose) she got spayed yesterday. So she needs a couple weeks to heal before she can leave. She’s up to date on vaccinations and just got groomed. Speaking of grooming though, for some reason she absolutely won’t let the groomer do her feet, but she lets me do them(?) So I would suggest she goes to someone that know how to groom or is willing to learn.

She is an absolute love bug and loves a good hug. She has a happy attitude and will sit in front of you and reach out her big, lanky paw to get your attention. She loves having a big yard to play and explore in. She’s a good watch dog too and will alert when someone arrives.

Aurora is an AKC registered purebred (small) standard Poodle and is just five years old, so has so many more fun years to share with the right person. She wasn’t raised around kids, so I would suggest an adult household to make her the most comfortable. And with any adult dog going to a new home, she will need plenty of time to adjust and feel comfortable. So having patience and time and ideally someone that works from home or is retired would be best. She’s used to having us around all the time.

She would do well with another dog, but I would suggest male only and probably big enough to handle her size and playfulness. She is about 40-45 lbs tops and stands about 22″ at the shoulder.

If you are seriously interested, please fill out the puppy applications on the website and in the section asking (“What are you looking for in a puppy?”) please note that you are applying for Aurora.

Aurora as a puppy. She’s is a sable parti but has obviously lightened with age. But this picture shows her colored spots. As an older puppy

What’s next?

Some of you might be wondering when our next Cavapoo litter will be arriving. Well, we had one in the works that was supposed to arrive any day now. Unfortunately, nature sometimes has other ideas. Our planned litter between Sky and Dickens did not pan out. She is not pregnant.

I’ve been waiting and waiting for one of the other girls that I’d like to breed to come in season, but they all took a break for a while.

Finally, while we were away on our trip, Winter came in season. So this week I’ve been introducing her to her new “beau” which in fact is Bonus, aka Bo aka Bobo. (Winter is a Cavapoo and Bonus is a mini Poodle so the pups will be F1b Cavapoos).

“If” she gets pregnant (and you never know with a first-timer) St Nick should be delivering some Christmas time puppies for us! And they will all be “cow” puppies. For those who don’t know, when we have parti-puppies (white base with colored spots) I call them cow puppies because they look like little Holstein cows!

I’m not sure exactly with colors we’ll get between them but likely blenheim, tricolor and black and white.

Both Winter and Bonus are on the smaller side so they pups may stay smaller although there is no guarantee on size. And sometimes with the Poodle background a pup may grow taller/bigger than the parent dogs.

But between these two parents the pups ought to be sweet, spunky and a lot of fun! I can’t wait to meet them. Fingers crossed that she gets in the family way.  <3

I will update with any news or when we know she’s pregnant for sure. But we won’t take names for the litter list until after the puppies are born.

💝💙

It’s quiet around here

We spent the weekend with family….. and then little Rabbit headed home with her new family yesterday.

Sharing lots of love with grandma

…….and then little Rabbit headed home with her new family yesterday.

Snuck in a little visit with my sis too <3

And that makes the last of the Aussiedoodles off to their new homes! I’m so thankful these darling little “oops” puppies all got good homes, even though it took a while to get them all matched.

And to make sure that never, ever happens again, Cody is going to the vet tomorrow to be “tutored” *wink, wink*

And now I’ve got just a couple days left before the weather gets crazy!

When I got home from Spokane yesterday, I headed to the garden to pick the rest of the veggies and start cleaning things out. Today, I’ve still got to get my garlic planted too.

Hubby got the apples picked. We usually wait until after the first frost but the crazy squirrels and chipmunks were knocking more off the trees each night!

Saving more flower seeds

Picking the last of the spoon tomatoes that came up voluntarily from last years plants. And found a few cucamelons hiding! They look like tiny watermelons but taste like cucumbers!

I’ve still got lots to do to preserve all this goodness. 🙌

And then there was one

Well, it’s just little Rabbit now. All her littermates have gone to their forever homes. It’s taken a while, but we’re happy that all of these little Aussie-oops! have gotten great homes. Rabbit will be with us a few more days and then go home with her new family on Sunday.

In the meantime, she’s learning how to be the “only child”. And although she’s the only puppy here, she has lots of other dogs to keep her company, teach her and interact with.  Sometimes she’s in the kitchen/dining area with Reba, Hope and myself. Sometimes she’s exploring the backyard when her mom climbs the fence and joins her for a while. And sometimes she goes out front with me to “help” with chores and hang out with the big dogs. She’s also learning to sleep by herself (no littermates). Although she and Panther were already sleeping, each in their own puppy pen at night when Panther was still here. And Auntie Hope sleeps in the same room so she has company.

So we’ll enjoy a few more days with her and share about the day she goes home soon.

Good-bye Panther!

Yesterday was Panther’s farewell day. We started out with a toenail trim, ear cleaning and a nice warm bath.

I let her air dry for a while then finished with the hair dryer. She seemed to enjoy the warm air blowing on her.

A potty break before loading her in the truck.

Then we headed back to the vet for her second check-up. Since her family lives across our northern border in B.C., she had to have a health certificate to get into her new country.

It was a beautiful P.N.W. morning!

Another potty break before we went into the vet’s office.

Waiting our turn.

Well, hello!

Waiting for the doctor

Check-up time

Panther’s new family met me at the vet and headed home from there. Panther is now Clara.

Happy life, Miss Clara!

And a couple snaps of the beautiful sky on my way home!

The last two

We made a trip to visit family and my sweet sis-in-law stepped up once again to take care of all the animals (including Rabbit & Panther, who are leaving soon) while we were away.

We are both dealing with ailing parents, although mine is two states away and seems to be doing well and is content where he is. Unfortunately, my FIL is now under hospice care and my sis was also helping out at her parents house between animal chores. It wasn’t the most ideal time for us to leave, but it was planned and I really needed to visit my dad and help my brother deal with our old family home and everything in it (since my dad is now in an assisted living facility). But how do you go through seventy years and three generations of memories, knick-knacks and such? My grandparents bought the house when my dad was in high school!

But I digress….

The puppies were so good while I was away and my sis-in-law enjoyed their silliness and sweet cuddles.

Yesterday they romped and played and explored the back yard, which was a whole new experience for them. Usually their outdoor playtimes have been in the side yard or out in the garden.

Today Panther goes home. And Rabbit will leave Sunday. I’m sure they will miss each other❤️

Pupdate~Fox aka Onyx

“Hey Jennifer-

It has been nearly 3 weeks since we added Onyx (AKA Fox from the “oopsy” litter) to our family. She is spunky and full of hysterical puppy energy! She is often dragging around objects that are twice her size, trying new things, and she is convinced that there is a prize at the bottom of her water bowl because she paws at it until all of the water is out on the floor. She jumps using all four legs at the same time giving the impression that she is spring loaded!

Lucy, our cavapoo from the May 15, 2020 litter, has happily accepted Onyx and is being so patient with her! Onyx will often take a bully stick or a treat right out of Lucy’s mouth and Lucy will just move on and grab another stick or come ask for another treat.

We are so happy with our Pinewood Cavapoo pups! You do such a wonderful job of ensuring that these pups get a great start in life and it really shows!

Thank you for the sweet pups! ”

Pupdate~Murphy aka Hermes

Well, in our visit to family I also got to see a Pinewood pup! My brother and SIL have a tricolor Cavapoo who was formerly Hermes from our Designer litter from Hazel and Dickens.

His mom says, “Walmart has good greeters, but Murphy is the best greeter” when everyone comes home from work 😉 and boy does he love his mommy!

When his mom picks him up and asks for a snuggle, he tucks his head up under her chin. It’s the cutest thing!

And he’s so helpful! He prewashes the dishes.

He chases the dragons (pool sweep) out of the back yard.

He loves belly rubs

And is great at begging for treats from the table. He’s a great couch potato

He has a “girlfriend” called Brenda the Bear😂And he loves when his human dad roughhouses with him. Murphy has the best life!❤️
